My home office is a space that I can truly call my own. It’s come a long way since I first started out with a laptop at the kitchen table – now I have a dedicated room that is entirely mine to decorate and furnish as I see fit. I’ve created a space that perfectly reflects my personality, with my choice of pictures on the wall, ornaments that reflect my taste and interests and, of course, furniture that I find both tasteful and practical,
Of course, there are some things that no office, home or otherwise, can do without, and while some of those may seem obvious, others not so much!

What could I not live without in my home office?
- Photos of the kids
Well, the first is easy. It’s the photos of my kids. Even though I work from home, I have made my home office into a dedicated space that I can retreat to during my working hours. That means that no kids are allowed. I like to still keep them near me, however, just as I would if I went out to work by keeping their photos on the desk right beside me. I’ve chosen a few old ones from when they were babies and some more recent ones that I think are special and have made them into a photo collage so whenever I’m feeling stressed I can just look at their pictures and I feel better again.
- Fountain Pen
My fountain pen may be a little outdated but it’s still one of my favorite things. I love the way it makes my handwriting look more attractive and I love the way it feels in my hand. I’ve had my fountain pen for quite a few years now and it has my name engraved on it. My sister bought it for me as a Christmas present a few years ago and it’s very precious to me. Whenever I sign a letter or make notes, it’s that pen that I use.

- Wall Planner
It may be boring, but one of the things that I absolutely couldn’t manage without in my home office is my wall planner. It takes up almost all of one wall and keeps me up to date with everything I need to do and by which date. I can see at a glance if I’m about to miss a deadline or if I’m due a payment, and I can see instantly whether there’s something that I should be tackling that I haven’t yet done. I’m always noting things down in my planner and it keeps me on track every day of the week.
- Post-It Notes
I admit it, Post-It notes are my guilty pleasure, and I’m a little obsessed with them. I use them for everything. For taking notes about phone calls to “to do” reminders that I stick on my PC for later reference. I have them in several shapes and sizes and in all kinds of colors, and I have a Post-It for all occasions. My office certainly wouldn’t be the same without them!
- My Office Chair
Here we come to the last, but not the least by any means, of my top 5 things that I couldn’t manage without in my home office. My office chair is probably one of the most important features of the room and it is everything I want and need it to be. It’s comfortable, supportive and practical and, even more important, it didn’t break the bank when I bought it. It’s an Office Star Free Flex chair and it is fully adjustable and ergonomic for absolute comfort. Thanks to its mesh back, it supports me perfectly while still being breathable so I don’t get too hot in the summer, and with its sliding adjustment, I can get the comfy seat in the perfect place. I can adjust the arm height, seat height and even the tilt with a single touch of the pressurized controls and with its low chemical emissions it doesn’t set off my allergies.
